We’ve had the pleasure of meeting Hlumelo at our 50th Reunion. He spoke to us about his experiences at SACS. We are very proud that he has been chosen as part of the 2020 Prefect group!

Dirk Kemp had this to say:

“I must tell you that we were all literally blown away by his speech to our SACS ’69 reunion group last Wednesday evening!  He spoke so well – his voice is clear and confident, but he still comes across as a well-grounded, humble (certainly not arrogant) lad.  He was also quite candid with us about his initial difficulties and I think he earned everyone’s respect for having pulled through, formed friendships, made a huge contribution as a team player.  He also seems to take his studies seriously and I hope he will be able to continue improving (given that he has had to make up for certain undeniable deficits in his primary and pre-primary education).  I immediately thought:  this boy should be a prefect – I am sure he will do himself and all of us who have supported him very proud!”

We’re excited to celebrate our reunion on Friday. However, not all of us can make it, so here are a few messages from those we’ll miss:

Alistair Cameron-Strange
Unfortunately, my wife and I shall be at a conference in Europe at this time. Please pass on my best wishes to the class.

Unfortunately, I am unable to make it due to my health. Please send all my very best to every 69er

I’m still trying to get my ducks in a row. Hoping to make it but only a possible at this stage. Hopefully you can sneak me in as a late comer if I make it – otherwise I’ll have to be (paying) gatecrasher J

Alan Forsyth
Unfortunately not. Attending weddings and whotnots! I will, however, be at the next big one in 2029 which will be even bigger because of the 200th SACS anniversary. Wonder how many of us will still be left?

Neil Thomson
Unfortunately, I will not be able to attend this reunion. I have allowed my passport to lapse and, with true Namibian efficiency, the Ministry of Home Affairs failed to order new blanks timeously and current information is that passports will only be available again in November.
Please give my regards to those present.

Unfortunately, I’m not going to be able to attend. Wishing everyone all the best and looking forward to seeing the pictures of the event.

Unfortunately, I will be in India at that time. Many thanks for the invite and I trust the occasion is enjoyed by all.

Hi Brian, I was a definite for this function but earlier in the year developed a complication with my diabetes and have recently begun a new regime of treatment for a bloody awful associated issue called Charcot foot and I have decided that it best that I don’t attend the function. My best to you all and I hope that the function is a great success. Best regards, Richard.

I would have loved to attend, but unfortunately, I will be unable to. I live in Australia and although I will be in Southern Africa in the weeks preceding the re-union, it has proven impossible for me to be in Cape Town for the re-union. I send my best wishes to those who do attend and I am sure it will be an enjoyable gathering for all those who do attend. Best wishes, Tim Kilham

It looks like a terrific programme and should be a lot of fun. Unfortunately, I shan’t be able to attend. A long time ago I committed to speaking at a symposium in Panama at the same time. Pity as I would’ve liked to attend. Haven’t seen many of these people for 50 years (hard to fathom). I hope that it is a great success.

My brain and heart had planned to be with you all for the reunion but my body had other plans and unfortunately, it won the battle. As much as I tried to rush the recovery process to be able to join you for the celebration it was not to be. Have an amazing time and take lots of photos. Will be thinking of you all

SACS 69 Trust Trustees Brian Fuchs, Peter Bourne and Dirk Kemp with “Our Man in Grade 8”, Hlumelo (out of uniform because he was rushing off to play Basketball). He also plays Rugby and we look forward to watching him play.

It is exciting to be able to report that our first beneficiary is now enrolled at SACHS: Hlumelo Ntweni has started in Grade 8 this year and is living at Michaelis.

Trevor Fish has kindly arranged for our Scholars to be mentored by Tessa Smit of the Spirit Foundation, which has a great track record in this field and also looks after the John Ince Scholars.
